YULIA, MARYJANE AND BUTTONS - THE JEWEL SHOES.

YULIA Maryjanes, introduced for our Season_04. ARMOUR, joined the collection at the last minute.

Brainstorming for the new collection, what I had in mind was clear - to create shoes that represent chic, adventurous women, with unapologetic, more defined aesthetics than the past seasons.

Some designs are re-interpretations of shoes from the past seasons, while others are desinged to give Pleiades Girls more options when styling themselves for the winter.

Along the way, the season's concept is fused into the design process, creating unique details and lines. Body extension, movement of the body and armour. YULIA is, an interpretation of the classic maryjane shoes. And it incorporates the elements of 'Armour' collection in its own way. Golden topline, proportions (especially the slim, straight heels versus the round pumps body), vintage buttons and metallic details represent the idea.

I personally think YULIA looks like a pair of jewels. That's what I thought when I saw the newly made samples at the factory.

Couple years ago, I went to an exhibition about 18-20C buttons from French costumes, at National Museum of Korea.

Buttons are the objects of obsession and mysterious love for me since childhood. As a child, I collected buttons and categorised them in plastic film containers, labelling them with girls' names. I even sometimes speak out loud, 'dan-choo', which means 'buttons' in Korean.

Made with a variety of materials - wood, plastic, leather, metal, mother-of-pearl, fabric and embroidery - and sewn onto clothes, they are intimate, small but observable. When noticed by someone, these round (sometimes not), 3D objects leave a strong impression about the person who’s wearing them.

Trying to introduce classic shoes but in a Pleiades way, I studied old shoes and tried to improvise them with my aesthetics - and a modern touch.

Season’s colours and different textures - and different for all three colour options - make them even more special. Vintage glam, while maintaining an elegant attitude and loveliness.
